With its ancient canals, lush overgrowth, and incredible carved facades, Angkor Wat, one of the most impressive UNESCO World Heritage Sites on Earth, is the perfect jungle adventure setting for budding adventure travellers.
Of course, there is a lot more to Angkor Wat than pretending to raid tombs and find things that belong in a museum.
Angkor Wat is actually composed of the remains of different capitals of the Khmer Empire which was perhaps the most powerful empire in Southeast Asia from the 9th-15th centuries. The Khmer Empire, which grew out of the former kingdom of Chenla, at times ruled over and/or vassalized parts of modern-day Laos, Thailand, and southern Vietnam.
Angkor Wat is a testament to the incredible heights the Khmer Empire reached in terms of architecture and urban planning, and one of the largest archaeological sites in the world.
Angkor Wat can be found in Cambodia, in the northwest province of Siem Reap.
