Two weeks have come and gone and so has my first visit to Europe. The journey has been too short and I am left feeling convinced that I will one day not only come back to Europe but will visit Switzerland again. The beauty has been too splendid and the people too welcoming for me not to come back to this wonderful country. Even the food has left the foretold taste of nostalgia and the memory of surprise. It is safe to say that I have fallen in love with Switzerland. Was it love at first sight? No, not quite.
I arrived in Switzerland with the reserved excitement of someone who understands the intrinsic value of traveling yet is tempered by the adolescent beleif that traveling to Switzerland was for adults. I am happy to say that I am wrong; Switzerland, if you can believe it, which I am sure you can unless of course you suffer from the same puerile belief that I’ve held up until recently, is a great place for anyone to travel. Learning this has not been painful and has come at the hand of long hikes through the Alps, warm smiles and great food. Learning this has also been a great reminder that I should always be prepared to let go of my preconceived notions of any place or people on this planet. To truly learn about a people, a country, a landscape and ourselves I must accept the possibility of falling in love with them.
