Outpost: Tell us about your map. What was your inspiration?
Ian Wright: There are so many countries in Africa, with so many different colours—it always reminds me of a patchwork quilt. It’s the only place around where I can never remember where countries are. With most places, you get a rough idea, but I still haven’t gotten my brain around Africa ’cause it’s just so vast.

OP: Your fi rst trip outside Western Europe was to Cairo. Why did you decide on Egypt?
IW: Egypt’s the perfect destination, ’cause it’s got everything. You’ve got all the pyramid stuff, all the museums,
Tutankhamen, incredible treasures. You’ve got Cairo, which is a crazy town. I love the big tea rooms where all the fat
