Mt. Kilimanjaro - Rongai Route

Swathed in the stuff of legends, Mt. Kilimanjaro preserves a mysticism that defies all current knowledge of her mighty slopes: she is the world’s highest snow covered equatorial mountain and an attainable force. Every year, thousands of adventurers from all over the world head to Tanzania to climb Africa’s tallest mountain: Kilimanjaro. Unlike the tallest peaks of most other continents, climbing Kilimanjaro requires no technical skill or previous experience but is still a considerable feat of endurance and determination.

Rongai Route

This camping-accommodated and less frequently used route is the second easiest route to Kilimanjaro. The route ascends the north side of the mountain and descends the Marangu Route, allowing for excellent scenery and great views of both sides.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Moshi (overnight hotel). Day 2: Transfer to Rongai Gate, trek to camp 1 (2600m). Day 3: Trek to camp 2 near Kikelewa Cave (3600m). Day 4: Trek to camp near Mawenzi Tarn (4300m). Day 5: Trek to camp near Kibo Hut (4700m). Day 6: Summit to Uhuru Peak (5895m), descend to Horombo campsite (3720m). Day 7: Descend to Marangu Gate, transfer to hotel (overnight hotel). Day 8: Depart to airport or other destination.
