The Swan Pub
By Ian Wright
It was my first visit and now it is one of my favorite place’s to stay in Canada, not just because I love pub’s. The rooms are perfect and unexpectedly huge…I walk up two flights of stairs with my bags, turned into a corridor that looked like any other, find my door and open it. Wow. The first surprise was another stair on the right leading to my bedroom and king sized bed. It was a two level open plan suite, my whole family could have stayed here. Downstairs was a kitchen, bathroom and living room with a tiny, tiny balcony–beautiful. It was oozing with character and most importantly, it felt comfortable.
Even the paintings on the walls were good, not boring arty crap with 3 red stripes, but pictures. Yes…it was a far cry from a rabbit hutch in a Soviet Block in Mongolia and I ain’t complaining on felt guilt wither, I was going to make the most of it. And as if all of this wasn’t good enough, the added bonus was it was also A PUB. YIPPEE! Have I died and gone to heaven? It served local beer too, my favorite was called Honey…something? and a great menu, and it’s also open late!
3 hours later it was time for bed.
“No…don’t ring for a taxi, I think I’ll walk home instead…thanks.”

Ian:
As a former resident of, and frequent visitor to Victoria, I have spent many hours at Swans, drinking their varieties of beer, eating their very good pub food (I haven’t yet ventured into their restaurant) and watching the crowds pass on the street and listening to some great music. Now you’re going to entice more and more visitors to Swans and if the next time I’m in Victoria and the place is more crowded than usual and I have to wait for a seat, I’ll know who to blame.
Is the Swan pub in Vic?
